The fourth 2012-dated release of the America the Beautiful five-ounce silver uncirculated coin will occur on Monday, September 24, 2012, with the debut of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park coins.

Designs of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park Coin

Shown on the reverse of the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park coin is a design emblematic of the national park located on the big island of Hawaii. It depicts an eruption on the east rift of Kilauea Volcano which is located within the park’s boundaries. The design by Charles L. Vickers is surrounded by the inscriptions of HAWAI’I VOLCANOES, HAWAII, 2012.

The obverse of each America the Beautiful related coin contains the same portrait. It features a likeness of the first President of the United States, George Washington. The portrait was originally created by John Flanagan for use on the 1932 circulating quarter dollar and has, with minor variations, been featured on quarters ever since. Obverse inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, and IN GOD WE TRUST.

Upcoming America the Beautiful Quarter Releases

Under the series, five coins are issued annually. Each features a unique reverse design honoring a different site of national interest from around the United States and its territories.

As previously mentioned, the Hawaii Volcanoes Quarter is the fourth of the 2012 America the Beautiful Quarters to appear this year. One more coin will be issued later this year. The Denali National Park Quarter. The final 2012-dated release of the program will contain a reverse design emblematic of the national park in Alaska.
