The Silver American Eagle is familiar to many people throughout the United States, as it is the country's official silver bullion coin. However, in partnership with Edmond C. Moy, former Director of the U.S. Mint, we are enabling you to - subject to availability - buy a very special version of the coin.

Though the American Silver Eagle has been minted almost annually since 1986, the availability of pieces with a 2010 date was hindered as a result of the global recession, during which people much more eagerly sought bullion coins to protect their wealth from inflation.

This initiative is the Ed Moy Signature Series of Silver American Eagle Proof 70 coins. Each coin in this series features the highly familiar designs of a walking Liberty, as originally crafted by Adolph A. Weinman in 1916, and a heraldic eagle, as drawn by John Mercanti in 1986. Each piece also has 1 Troy ounce of .999 fine silver and a face value of $1.

Best-known for serving as the 38th Director of the U.S. Mint from 2006 until 2011, the Detroit-born Moy is also notable for his role as Special Assistant to the President from 2001 to 2006, when George W. Bush was leading the country. In 2003, Moy helped with the transition to the then recently established U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

In Moy's first year at the helm of the U.S. Mint, it produced more than 16 billion coins and sold numismatic collectibles worth a total of over $1 billion. It was also during his tenure that the financial crisis began, sparking overwhelming demand for silver bullion.

Today, Moy is also known as an economist, author and public speaker. Since departing the U.S. Mint, he has worked for L&L Energy, Inc. and Fortress Gold Group; furthermore, articles of his occasionally appear on the Moneynews.com website.
