The First Lady Louisa Adams gold coin is part of the First Spouse series that first hit the market in 2007. These coins have had high and low mintages. Each coins in the series is made of .9999 (24 karat) gold and weighs 1/2 troy ounce.
The 2008 Louisa Adams First Spouse gold coin was struck at the West Point Mint.
Louisa Adams was the spouse of the sixth President of the United States, John Quincy Adams. For nearly six years the Adams family lived in Russia as American diplomats. When Mr. Adams was called to The Hague to participate in peace talks to end the War of 1812, she remained with her son in Russia. She and her son eventually joined Mr. Adams in The Hague, and the reverse design of this coin shows Louisa and her son during their long and arduous journey across Europe.
