The Morgan and Peace coins are arguably the most well-known designs in American coinage. The Peace coin was the successor to the Morgan Dollar, which had not been minted regularly since 1904. Peace Dollars were minted between 1921 and 1935. Designed by Anthony de Francisci, the coins are a result of a competition that aimed to find designs emblematic of peace post World War One. On each coin's obverse is the profile of the Goddess of Liberty, and, on the reverse of each coin is a bald eagle clutching an olive branch complete with the word "peace." The Peace Coin was the last US dollar to be circulated in silver, which is why they are sought after by coin collectors today, who consider them both valuable and nostalgic additions to their collection.
Each coin weighs 26.73 grams and is 90% silver. Early runs of the Peace Dollar experienced issues with dye, which makes these more valuable. The 1934 version of the dollar is also valuable, as not many were preserved this year. The Common Date $1 Peace Coin is an excellent edition for a beginner's collection or anyone looking for an affordable addition to their current coin portfolio.
