1901 $2.50 Liberty Gold Quarter Eagle PF65 Deep Cameo

The 1901 $2.50 Liberty Gold Quarter Eagle is an exceptional proof striking of one of America's longest-running gold coin series. Designed by Christian Gobrecht, the Liberty Head Quarter Eagle was produced from 1840 through 1907 and represents a significant era of United States gold coinage.

Struck in 90% gold with a weight of 4.18 grams (0.1209 troy ounces of pure gold), proof examples were produced in extremely limited quantities using specially prepared dies and polished planchets. Unlike standard circulation strikes, proof coins were manufactured specifically to showcase the highest level of detail and finish achievable by the U.S. Mint.

This example has been certified PF65 Deep Cameo by NGC or PCGS, indicating a Gem Proof grade with outstanding eye appeal. The Deep Cameo designation recognizes the strong contrast between deeply mirrored fields and richly frosted design elements, a highly desirable characteristic on proof gold coinage from this era.

The obverse features Lady Liberty wearing a coronet inscribed with "LIBERTY," surrounded by thirteen stars representing the original colonies, with the date below. The reverse displays the heraldic eagle designed by Christian Gobrecht, holding an olive branch and arrows beneath the inscription UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination 2½ D.

With its limited proof production, classic Liberty Head design, and impressive PF65 Deep Cameo certification, the 1901 $2.50 Liberty Gold Quarter Eagle stands as an outstanding example of early 20th-century U.S. Mint craftsmanship.
