1900 $5 Liberty Gold Half Eagle PF65 Deep Cameo

The 1900 $5 Liberty Gold Half Eagle is an exceptional proof striking of one of the United States Mint's longest-running gold coin series. Designed by Christian Gobrecht, the Liberty Head Half Eagle was produced from 1839 through 1908 and remains one of the most recognizable classic American gold coin designs.

Struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 90% gold, the coin weighs 8.36 grams and contains 0.2419 troy ounces of pure gold. Proof examples were produced in limited quantities using specially polished dies and planchets to achieve outstanding detail and brilliant mirrored surfaces.

This example has been certified PF65 Deep Cameo by PCGS, indicating Gem Proof quality with exceptional eye appeal. The Deep Cameo designation recognizes the dramatic contrast between deeply mirrored fields and frosted design elements, a highly desirable characteristic on proof gold coinage.

The obverse features Liberty wearing a coronet inscribed "LIBERTY," surrounded by thirteen stars with the date below. The reverse displays the classic heraldic eagle with shield, holding an olive branch and arrows beneath the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and FIVE D.

With an PCGS population of only 5, the 1900 $5 Liberty Gold Half Eagle PF65 Deep Cameo is an exceptionally scarce certified example that showcases the craftsmanship of the United States Mint at the turn of the twentieth century.
