Design
Lady Liberty sits beside the Texas State Capitol on the obverse, her arm raised toward the Lone Star above the dome, a composition meant to evoke ambition and direction. Turn the coin over and you'll find the Texas Coat of Arms, the Lone Star centered and framed by olive and live oak branches, with "THE STATE OF TEXAS" inscribed beneath. The olive branch stands for peace and diplomacy; the live oak, for strength and endurance. Together, the two branches balance resolve with stability, the same balance the design asks you to see in the state itself.
A Series Rooted in Texas History
This annual release series is state-authorized and produced by the Texas Bullion Depository, the nation's first state-administered bullion depository. The series began in 2025 with the Official 2025 State of Texas Gold Proof Commemorative Coin, featuring a relief map of Texas terrain and the Star of Texas framed by a laurel and live oak wreath. The 2026 Lone Star design carries that story forward as the series' second annual release, and the reverse design will stay consistent across future releases as each year's obverse changes.
A Final Tribute
The 2026 issue of this historic series was designed by Joel Iskowitz (1946-2026), renowned designer for the U.S. Mint and Congressional Gold Medals. The 2026 Lone Star was among the final pieces he completed before his passing, and with a limited 2026 mintage, it won't be repeated. This package preserves a piece of his closing legacy across four complete sets, in the highest certified grade available, with one set bearing Governor Greg Abbott's hand signature.
