2018 Gold American Eagle Set Proof 70

History of the Coins:
The Gold American Eagle is the flagship coin of the U.S. Mint. Authorized and guaranteed by the U.S. government in 1985, the Gold American Eagle coins were first minted in 1986 and quickly became a favorite among collectors and investors. The Gold American Eagle coin is minted in four different weights, 1 oz., 1/2 oz., 1/4 oz., and 1/10 oz. The gold used for these coins must be sourced from the United States so when you invest in the Gold American Eagle you are truly investing in American gold.

The only design fitting of the Gold American Eagle is that of renowned sculptor, Augustus Saint-Gaudens and his interpretation of Lady Liberty. The design features Lady Liberty with flowing hair and dress, confidently striding forward with her right foot in front of her left, a torch symbolizing light and hope in her right hand and an olive branch representing peace in her left. Saint-Gaudens design was part of President Roosevelt's desire to have coins of the United States closely resemble that of the Roman Empire.

The reverse of the coin is equally patriotic featuring the bald eagle. The design is the work of sculptor Miley Busiek and perfectly compliments the obverse of the coin. A large male bald eagle with wings spread prepares to return to the nest he shares with a female bald eagle and their baby eagle. Just to the right of the female bald eagle are the words IN GOD WE TRUST while UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is directly above the male bald eagle centered at the top of the coin.

The U.S. Mint strikes proof coins multiple times. This extra attention to detail creates an almost mirror-like background that further adds to the beauty of the Gold American Eagle coins.
