Description:

Recovered from the S.S. Republic shipwreck, this piece has survived in amazing “gemmy” condition despite the choice grade designation. The S.S. Republic has an interesting history serving on both Union and Confederate forces. After the war, being used as transport, the ship was sunk of the south east coast by a hurricane. Recovered in the early 21st century, this coin has incredible surfaces devoid of chatter and damage from a century and half on the ocean floor.
