The country of issue, the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, curves around the majority of the reverse side, separated only by the tips of the eagle's wings. There is a just enough room left for the face value of 2 1/2 D, and the coin is completed with a reeded edge. The reverse design is inspired by the Great Seal of the United States, and it also owes a debt to the earlier work of John Reich.

Liberty Gold Quarter Eagles were struck at the Philadelphia, Charlotte, Dahlonega, New Orleans and San Francisco mints.
