Arguably, there can be no better way to celebrate the history of the United States than with a silver round that depicts the imagery of two of the most iconic American figures. This ½ ounce Silver Buffalo Round takes its design inspiration from the original Buffalo Nickel from 1913. With the inclusion of half one troy ounce of .999 pure silver, this round is privately minted in the United States making it a practical investment for those interested in precious metals.

The Buffalo Nickel's creation came from Theodore Roosevelt's belief that coinage in America needed to be more unique. The nickel went into production in 1913 and did not cease until the beginning of the Second World War. After that, in 2001, President Clinton authorized the release of the Silver Buffalo as a commemoration coin for the founding of the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian. Nevertheless, the coin continues to be considered as one which commemorates the two distinctive inhabitants of the Native American Plains.

The obverse of the coin is engraved with the portrait of a Native American with feathers in his hair, a design created by James Earle Fraser. Fraser took inspiration from a mixture of the features from Chiefs of three Indian tribes; Big Tree, Iron Tail and Two Moons. The motto 'LIBERTY' also features on this side. The reverse features a picture of the once endangered American Bison, commonly known as a Buffalo, which is where the round takes its name. The Buffalo was inspired by a zoo specimen from the East Coast of the United States, but it remains unclear as to whether or not this is a fact. This side also has the weight and purity of the round rather than the previous "United States of America Five Cents," meaning that this round is not legal tender.
