Then look to the exquisite 1oz Silver Philharmonic, the only Silver Bullion coin annually minted to be denominated in euros. Random years of this coin are available.

Ever listened to the Vienna New Year's concert?

Then this coin is for you, a tribute to the work of the Vienna Philharmonic. The obverse design on the coin features the Great Organ from the "Goldener Saal"(Golden Hall) of Vienna's concert hall, the Musikverein. The wording inscribed includes "REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH" (Republic of Austria) and "1 UNZE FEINSILBER" (1-ounce pure silver), plus the year and face value of 1,50 euro.

The reverse design features a range of musical instruments from the orchestra including the cello, violin, harp, Vienna horn, and bassoon, plus the words "WIENER PHILHARMONIKER" (Vienna Philharmonic) and "SILBER" (Silver). Designed by Thomas Pesendorfer - chief engraver of the Austrian Mint, the design was initially used on the gold commemorative coin issued from 1989.

Minted from 2008 until the present, the 1 oz Silver Philharmonic coin is not only beautiful, but it is also guaranteed by the Austrian Mint - giving you peace of mind - making it a sterling investment not to be missed. The history of minting in Austria dates back to 1194 when Richard the Lionheart paid a ransom of 15 tonnes of silver to Duke Leopold V of Austria. Leopold made the decision to strike coins from the silver and hence the tradition of minting in Austria was born. The Austrian Mint was first mentioned in historical documents about 200 years later, originally based at the Hoher Markt, it moved to several times before settling at its current home in Heumarkt during the 19th century. Since 1989 it has been part of the National Bank of Austria and a public limited company.

The Austrian Mint has produced the Austrian schilling, the Austrian euro coins, including the Silver Philarmonic, plus gold bullion and commemorative coins. It also supplies coins to a number of other countries across the world.

Silver for a sterling investment:

Silver has proven to be one of the most popular commodities throughout history and remains so today. In fact, in 14 languages worldwide money and silver are the same words. Today, Silver is beaten only by oil as the most used commodity in the world. In addition to its intrinsic value as a precious metal, Silver is also valued by a number of industries for its ability to resist corrosion, malleability and conduct both electricity and heat. Hence silver is increasingly utilized in telecommunications, medical, energy and automotive industries. The lower price of silver, when compared to gold, makes it an attainable investment for first-time investors and represents a good way to build up an investment portfolio. Unlike Gold, Silver has remained impervious to confiscation from governments. The demand for silver continues to rise based on both the increased industrial use and the popularity of precious metals in countries such as China and India - furthering worldwide demand. The 1 oz Silver Philharmonic coin has proven to be part of this trend, proving popular with collectors since it was first issued.
