Description:

The 1999 $5 George Washington commemorative gold coin was struck at the West Point facility to mark the 200th anniversary of Washington's death.

The obverse of the coin shows President Washington in profile, based on the bust sculpted by Jean Antoine Houdon at Mt. Vernon in 1785. Incidentally, this is the same model later used by Mr. Flanagan for the competing quarter design. The reverse design shows a bald eagle with wings spread, again, similar in many respects to the later Flanagan design.

Our firm offers this coin in Mint State 70, graded by NGC.
