One of the most photographed landmarks in the world, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. This year, 2022, is the 650th anniversary of the completion of this famous building and its fair to say that no other building in the world has become as popular for its flaws.
5 years after construction started and the third floor was completed, the tower that originally was designed as a bell tower, began to lean. Construction was halted for 100 years. More floors were then added and engineered to attempt to counter-balance the lean which only made it worse. Numerous attempts have been made to correct the issue and finally in 2008, the tower was stabilized enough to allow visitors again to explore.
This 2 oz silver coin has a flat bottom edge to allow you to view the coin vertically as if you were visiting in person. Every detail of the tower from the arches to its belfry can be seen in detail on this beautifully antiqued finish coin.
