Located on the Mokulmne River, Roaring Camp was used by gold prospectors from 1848-1855, and is still operational. Families can enjoy a variety of activities including taking museum tours, hiking, swimming, camping, rafting and dredging and drywashing their own gold.

Reed Gold Mine (Midland, North Carolina) - Reed Gold Mine is the site of the first gold discovery in the United States, according to the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources. John Reed was the farmer who discovered the yellow rock in 1799, and reportedly used it as a doorstop for three years before realizing its value. Today, visitors come from near and far to explore restored underground tunnels and examine historical gold pieces.

Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine (Cripple Creek, Colorado) - The Mollie Kathleen is the longest continually operating gold mine tour in the country. The mine was discovered by Mollie Kathleen Gortner in 1891, and visitors can take a guided tour of this historical location. The tour includes a look at underground mines and visitors are able to see several exposed gold pieces in their natural state during the visit.
