The Gold American Buffalo, also known as a gold buffalo, is a 24-karat gold coin first offered for sale as a 2006 edition on June 22, 2006. The 2007 Gold American Buffalo Coin was the second year for the new series of 24 karat gold coins offered by the US Mint. The coins were available in one ounce size as either bullion coins for precious metals investors or proof coins for collectors. As might be expected, sales of the 2007 Gold American Buffalo coins showed a decline from the levels of the inaugural year, resulting in lower mintages for both options of the coin. The 2007 Proof Gold American Buffalo coin still outsold the one ounce 2007 Proof Gold Eagle, which is a testament to the design's enduring popularity.
The 2007 Proof Gold Buffalo coins were available for sale beginning on May 23, 2007. The spot price of gold was $661.30 per ounce on May 23, 2007, the first day the proof version of the coin was offered.
There were only 58,998 Gold Buffal Proofs minted in 2007.
A total of only 3,828 Gold Buffalo Proofs from 2007 had been certified by NGC in Proof 70 condition as of early 2010.
