In 2003, Gold Eagle Proof production remained consistent with the immediately preceding years with total and individual mintage figures being very similar. In 2003, there were a total of 143,000 Gold Eagle Proofs minted across all four denominations. For the third year in a row, the $10, $25, and $50 Gold Proof denominations tallied less than 33,000 each, with the $10 Gold Eagle Proof being the rarest within the group by total mintage. Interestingly though, the $5 Gold Eagle Proof ranked as the 5th most rare by total mintage within its respective denomination.
Additionally, through June 26, 2009, a total of only 635 four coin Gold Eagle Proofs sets from 2003 had been certified by NGC in Proof 70 condition.
