As the Gold Eagle Proof series matured, the total mintages from year to year became fairly consistent and began settling in around or below the 50,000 total mintage figures for each coin. The 1999 Gold Eagle Proofs were one of the last two years to exceed 50,000 total coins minted in a single denomination. With a total of 144,740 Gold Eagle Proofs across all four denominations, the 1999 Gold Eagle Proofs rank only as the 10th rarest by total mintage.

Additionally, through June 26, 2009, a total of only 265 four coin Gold Eagle Proofs sets from 1999 had been certified by NGC in Proof 70 condition.
