Like its immediate predecessor, the Class of 1998 distinguishes itself quite nicely as well. With a total of 101,342 Proof coins minted overall across all four denominations, the 1998 Gold Eagle Proofs are the 3rd rarest overall by total mintage for all four-coin denomination issues between 1998-2005. The 1998 Gold Eagle Proofs also can claim two #1 most rare by total mintage among its ranks. Both the $50 Gold Eagle Proof, with 26,060 Proof coins minted, and the $25 Gold Eagle Proof, with 25,549 Proof coins minted.

NGC Certified Population Summary:

Additionally, through June 26, 2009, a total of only 292 four coin Gold Eagle Proofs sets from 1998 had been certified by NGC in Proof 70 condition.
