Original Total Mintage Summary:

Like the business strike Gold Eagles, the 1992 Gold Eagle Proofs are truly collectable as they are the first Gold American Eagles to bear the Arabic numeral date designs instead of the original Roman numeral designs they had sported since their original issue in 1986. Once again, with only 40,976 total coins produced, the $25 Gold Eagle Proofs were the rarest among the group by total mintage. From this point forward through the end of 2005, the $25 Gold Eagle Proofs would routinely be the denomination with the fewest coins minted each year.

NGC Certified Population Summary:

Additionally, through June 26, 2009, a total of only 272 four coin Gold Eagle Proofs sets from 1992 had been certified by NGC in Proof 70 condition.
