In 1990, the mintage totals for the individual denominations of the Gold Eagle Proofs showed about a 25% increase over the 1989 totals, but were still significantly less than the mintage for 1988. As a group, with a combined mintage of 276,060, the 1990 Gold Eagle Proof mintage totals were still almost 70% smaller than the 1988 mintages. Of these, the $25 Gold Eagle Proofs still posted the lowest mintage total for 1990 with only 51,636 total Proofs minted. With a total of 99,349 minted, the $5 Gold Eagle Proofs represented almost 35% of the total group mintage.
Additionally, through June 26, 2009, a total of only 114 four coin Gold Eagle Proofs sets from 1990 had been certified by NGC in Proof 70 condition.
